What was the main reason why Heston Cleaning needed outside H&S help? We have “Safe Contractor” accreditation status which shows our customers that we really do care about our staff, and their staff and customers as we go about our work. It’s a gold standard and HSM take the strain for us not just in the accreditation process, but the systems that are needed to achieve accreditation. The second reason is that HSM, and Cerith in particular, operate as our “competent person”, this means that we have the Chartered expertise available to draw on if and when we require – and again our clients really appreciate it that we take health and safety so seriously. How did HSM ‘jump in’ and grasp your issues? They literally do ‘jump in’! Our designated health and safety expert Cerith was prepared to jump in a car and get down to us for a 9am training session, with his professional, approachable and knowledgeable, industry specific insight. Share an extract of how you engage with HSM ongoing? In addition to being our ‘competent person’ on the end of the phone or email if we have any emergent issue, we schedule in a quarterly a ‘Toolbox Talks’. These staff training days are essential as both covering bases with any new staff, but also refresher training for existing staff. Topics covered might include: COSHH – (control of substances hazardous to health), Fire Safety, General H&S. And course content is always customised to our industry needs and legislation. If you were recommending HSM to a contemporary: What aspect would you highlight about HSM ? To continue on the training topic, we’ve found the industry specific knowledge and best practices that the HSM team craft into the training sessions that they deliver really are of a high quality. Combined with a personable yet professional delivery – it’s what an organisation and we wanted. We know health and safety can be considered ‘boring’ but Cerith and the team really deliver their training in an engaging manner that our staff enjoy. Anything else that you’d like to share!? Very positive feedback and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending. We’ve never felt the need to engage other H&S organisations, as their price, accessibility, knowledge and service are second to none.
