What was the main reason why Venner Shipley needed outside H&S help?

We’re a growing, multi-site firm with the management of health & safety currently being the responsibility of two people. Due to this and the logistical challenges of monitoring health & safety in our branch offices, we felt that outside H&S was essential in helping us to create a safe working environment for our employees and would help us to meet our needs from a compliance perspective.

How did HSM ‘jump in’ and grasp your issues?

HSM have been able to attend our sites over the last few years and provide us with detailed General and Fire Risk Assessments which highlight current practices and areas for improvement; areas which would then be monitored during subsequent visits. This has been extremely valuable in helping us to maintain safe working environments and meet our compliance needs.

More recently, HSM have also offered valuable guidance with regards to COVID-19 as we prepared our offices for re-occupation.

Share an extract of how you engage with HSM ongoing? 

HSM are always on hand to offer practical and sound advise, not just in relation to our General and Fire Risk Assessments, but also with any ad-hoc queries we have or guidance we may need.

As we continue with Hybrid working, we have had to address the issue of not having Fire Marshals on site on any one day. To alleviate this risk, HSM were able to provide staff with Fire Marshal training through their online portal.

If you were recommending HSM to a contemporary: What aspect would you highlight about HSM ?

I would highlight Neil & Cerith’s hands on approach to their work and their willingness to engage and address any issues we have with very helpful advise and guidance. They’re extremely professional, approachable and have gone out of their way to accommodate us, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
