Final checks before the big festive lock up has never been more important
When the office parties have been celebrated, the get togethers finished and the well-wishes and cards have been exchanged – all that’s left to do is lock up and enjoy the Christmas break. But, make sure you don’t forgot this important something.
“Too many businesses don’t recover after the devastation of having a fire, so we really want people to take a bit of time to check their premises are as safe as possible.”
Those are the words of Business Fire Safety Manager Emma Turner from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, who says now is one of their busiest times for visiting premises in relation to safety issues as we all rush to lock up and leave for the holidays.
Fire risk assessments might feel like a regulatory burden, but they are so important. It takes very little time to complete them – and it could avoid hefty fines for your business, or worse, serious injury to staff.
Cerith Brawn, Director at HSM said: “At this time of year, festivities can cause us to over look some of the more important things, like fire safety. We also forget that this time of year can be a bit of an anomaly – seasonal staff on site who are perhaps not as familiar with proceedings, additional stock and even decorations can all be increased risk factors.”
“Keep all staff well-trained and before you lock up for Christmas, make sure your up to date with your fire risk assessment” – it’s one less thing to come back to in the New Year and all you need to worry about is continuing celebrations!
